Text your order to the waiter

Click on this link to read a Parade magazine article (5-1-11) about the new practice of texting one's order to waiter while sitting at a restaurant table.  Is this an advance in obtaining speedy service, or a further step towards the dehumanizing of a traditionally interpersonal experience?

  1. I think this is just a bad idea in general. Why do we have to text it? Can't we just say it? It's a lot faster. Especially for people that change their mind like 20 times when ordering. People also have questions about the food when ordering. Maybe they text something wrong and then it's the waiters fault. Also, will the waiter be texting back the whole time? This makes no sense. What is someone goes drunk? Like to an Ihop at 4 in the morning after partying. I don't think that waiter will have such a good time. At least when they can talk to you they understand that you are drunk, but by text without seeing you how will they know. Those drunk people will probably just mess around with the waiter.
