The DSM, the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders, is a standard tool used by psychiatrists and psychologists to assess whether someone is mentally ill. A new edition being proposed by a panel of the American Psychological Association, has opened up whole new categories of mental illness, and considerable controversy. If you throw a temper tantrum three times a week, are you mentally ill? If you can't get aroused sexually, is that a mental illness?
