Eating meat without the killing

Grow animal meat, ready for eating and free of contamination, in your own home - without killing anything.

This invention is really something! I'm not sure what to think of it yet. Read the article linked above and discuss your thoughts.

  1. I am always looking at things that people design for the future. I think they are very interesting and may of the ideas people have are genius. After reading the whole article and seeing all of the things they have done I think that some would be very useful but others I am not so sure about. This Cocoon was very interesting because I have never even imagined something like this could be done. I wonder if it really works as it should and if the meat or fish or whatever would really taste the same. Does this really work or is it just a model right now? I think they make a valid point about food shortages and that in the future it will help us in that sense but how much will this cost? Will people be able to afford it to feed themselves? Im sure that if it was out now it would cost some hundreds if not millions of dollars. I am pretty sure that in the future many more people will have come up with ideas much like this if not better. Even in one year someone can come up with a much better idea than this one. Maybe one that makes the entire meal? I also think that the flying rain catcher and the robotic greenhouse are interesting.

  2. If this really works that would be amazing. At first I thought this was actually being made, but after reading the article I was a little disappointed to see that it is just an idea. I do not see why this is a controversial because it seems like awesome all the way around. No matter how i look at it, it seems so beneficial.

  3. The idea of growing meat is a little disturbing for me. I am conflicted because I understand food shortages and how this would greatly help us from slaughtering mass amounts of animals in order to feed everyone. However, I want to raise my own animals and garden and live as we have lived for many hundreds of years. If only the population was not so vast perhaps we could move away from processed and "fake" food. I want real food and if that means only eating meat on rare occasion or never again, so be it.
